How do I measure a yard for artificial turf?

For a preliminary estimate, sketch the turf area as simple rectangles, circles, or triangles and add the pieces together. Exclude structures, planting beds, trees, and hardscape that will remain. A satellite-based measurement can make this faster, but it should be treated as a planning number—not the final construction measurement.
Professional measurement also considers access, slopes, existing concrete, drains, utilities, seams, and the direction of the turf pile. Those details affect both material layout and labor. A yard with the same square footage can require more preparation when it has tight access, significant grading, or several curves.
