How much space does a home putting green need?

A compact green can be a satisfying short-game practice surface, while a larger footprint makes room for multiple cup locations, varied distances, and more creative contours. The surrounding area also matters if players need safe paths or a fringe for chips.
Space planning should account for trees, drainage routes, setbacks, utilities, existing hardscape, and sight lines from the home. A well-proportioned green usually feels better than a large shape squeezed into an awkward spot.
