Why is base preparation important for artificial turf?
The base controls stability, finished appearance, and drainage. Even premium turf can perform poorly if the ground below it settles, holds water, or was not graded correctly.

The artificial grass is the visible layer, but the site preparation determines how the system performs under daily use. An uneven or poorly compacted base can contribute to dips, visible seams, water issues, and an uncomfortable walking surface over time.
A professional review identifies issues before turf is installed, including compacted clay, runoff patterns, existing roots, drainage bottlenecks, and access constraints. Addressing those items up front is usually less disruptive than trying to correct them after the turf is down.
Compare proposals carefully: a lower initial price may omit demolition, base preparation, edge restraint, or drainage. Those details are integral to the finished installation—not optional upgrades.
